Corp member ganged raped in Yenagoa - Skylinenews

Residents of Yenizue Gene, a suburb in Yenagoa who thought they were traumatized after watching the Super Eagles lose to the Croatian team, received a doubled dose of grief after their area was visited by men of the underworld in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It was learnt that the armed robbers numbering up to fifteen stormed the area at about 3am in the morning and with their fire power quickly dispatched the neighbourhood vigilantes who are usually armed with only sticks and cutlasses.

Emboldened, the hoodlums reportedly moved towards the NYSC corpers lodge were they said to have forcefully carried off a female corps member.

According to a resident of the community who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the unfortunate corps member was repeatedly raped by the hoodlums who took her in turns.

She has however been take the hospital for treatment after the incident, he said.
Local sources said though the police was alerted there was little they could do, considering the troubled area was pitch black after being thrown into darkness by the PHEDC power cut.

A local vigilante identified simply as Tonye said the security men were afraid of running into an ambush.

For now aborigines of Yenizue Gene who have been complacent over the issue of security are seriously contemplating forming a vigilante group to tackle the incessant cases of crime in their native community.

No life was lost.
