Boro festival: Committee Secretary, Amara seeks active participation of Ijaw youths, calls on sponsorship of Mutinationals, Ijaw leaders

May 15th to 19th is mostly the time when Niger Deltans, especially from the Izon ethnic Nationality commemorates late Major Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro, in an annual anniversary tagged as "Boro Festival", being organised  by the people of his hometown (Kaiama), in appreciation and honour of his heroic deeds, his agitations for resource control and self determination.

In preparation for a befitting event, the amananaowei of Kaiama, HRH Sir Jerry O. Brutolu JP (Ekpein II), constituted a committee on January 12th 2017,  with Mr. Samiama Inemo as it's Chairman and Mr. Samson amara, a seasoned Journalist and writer as it's Secretary.

The Objective of this committee is to ensure a proper organisation of events, that would be worthy of the late Hero's personality.

Speaking with the Secretary of the committee, Mr. Samson Amara, he stated that as part of the core objectives of the festival, It is expected to unite all Ijaw sons and daughters to Kaiama, in celebration of the patriotic work of late boro and to commemorate the high ideals of patriotism and selfless service to the Izonland, which are some of the legacies bequeathed to this present generation.

According to him, " It is an annual festival being organised yearly to honor the special one who took the bull by the horns to front the struggle for self determination and resource control in the Niger Delta at his 20's".

Mr. Amara further called on multinationals, philanthropists, Ijaw leaders to support the event and demonstrate their public relation profile by sponsorship of the event which will mark a turning point in the Izon Nation.

He therefore urged all Ijaw sons and daughters, well wishers, and most especially the freedom fighters to grace the occasion in their numbers to honor the heroic deeds of late Boro.

Mr. Amara concluded by advising everyone set to attend the event to conduct themselves in a manner likely not to breach the existing peace, he also advises security agencies who will be deployed for the event, not to see the avenue as a means to intimidate or harass Ijaw people, thereby warning against reckless or unwarranted conducts while discharging their duties, but to rather confine themselves to the provisions of the law.

Amara noted that the Events will feature the following;

•Love boats
•Symposium (lecturers and scholars) with the topic "the way forward for the development of Niger Delta
•Heroes Night
•Cultural dances
•musical performances
•Etc

The festival is expected to last for three days,  probably to start from 14th to last till 19th of may, though the date is unspecified at the moment, further information will be communicated to the public via the committee.
