Anarchy in N/DELTA: IYC Raises alarm for March 5th Plan, calls on security agencies to act.

Rivers: In a press statement alerting security agencies, the newly elected leadership of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) worldwide, has accused Alhaji Asari Dokubo, the leader of the Niger Delta people's volunteer force (NDPVF) of planning to cause anarchy and lawlessness tomorrow March 5th 2017 at Okrika, Rivers state, in the guise of an Ijaw youths convention not sanctioned by the Council’s leadership.

According to the Spokesman, Barr. Henry Iyalla, he urged all youths to disregard the call as there was an interior motive to it likely to breach peace as the Council leadership did not sanction for such call.

The statement further reads:

" The leadership of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC)  worldwide calls on Ijaw youths not to attend the purported Okrika convention been called for Sunday March 5, 2017 by some former leaders of of the council led Alhaji Asari Dokubo.

The Ijaw Youth Council has a new executive Council under the leadership of Eric Omare as President. Therefore, it is only the new leadership that has the right to call for conventions or any other gathering of Ijaw youths. Any gathering of Ijaw youths without the consent of the leadership is an invitation to anarchy and lawlessness which must be prevented. Also, the IYC has concluded the process of electing a new leadership to lead the council from March 3, 2017 to March 3, 2020.

Therefore, the IYC Leadership calls on the relevant security agencies especially the Inspector General of Police, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, the Joint Task Force to stop the purported okrika convention been called by Asari Dokubo and others outside the IYC Leadership in the interest of peace and security in the Niger Delta region.

The security agencies must act fast for peace to reign in the Niger Delta region".
