Questions have been raised in recent times if really the avengers are fighting for the interest of the Niger Delta or they are just another politically sponsored group, solely rooted on their personal own selfish gains rather than focusing on the plights of the Niger Delta people.

The Avengers, whom in one of their recent press releases, demanded for the immediate release of the leader of the independent people of Biafra, Nmandi kanu and former Chief security officer to Former President Jonathan, Col. Sambo Dasauki (rtd).

This left the public in awe, wondering if the group represents what they claim they stand for or as mentioned above, another politically sponsored group.

A Niger Delta Youth leader and activist, Hon. Diepreye Aaron in a press statement issued in Yenagoa 2-06-2016, lambasted the group for being political rather than defending the Niger delta, he said " It is appalling to hear the avengers demand, rather than demanding for the release of our Niger Delta sons languishing in jail, the likes of Edmund Ebiwari, Henry Okah, Charles Okah and many others which leaves one to ask if their agitation is hinged on the interest of the Niger Delta or their personal interest".

He further said "the avengers are not Niger Deltans, they are sponsored group from neighboring states and soon they will meet their waterloo", he also called on the Avengers to redirect their steps by embracing peace rather than destroying oil installations.

He  also advised the Federal government to withdraw the soldiers in the Niger delta villages and wave the olive branch, inorder to avert another Odi Genocide, as much damage has been done to innocent villagers in recent times.

Finally, he called the people of the Niger delta to be patient with president Buhari, he said " Governance is a step and Buhari has began those steps, let's support him to make our region better, for i believe he is here to serve the people of the Niger delta".
