Darlon Security: IYC, Egbesu Brotherhood faults assembly claims, says Company has brought peace to the region.
The Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) has described as untrue and false, the allegations leveled against Bayelsa indigenous security firm, Darlon, by the state house of assembly.
Recall the house had earlier invited the Chairman of the firm, Sir David Lyon, on allegations bothering on breech of peace in Southern Ijaw local government area.
In a statement signed by Comr. Abule Titus buna, Chairman, and Comr. Anki bestman, secretary, Ijaw Youths Council Clan chairmen forum, Southern-IJaw LGA.,noted that the assembly claims of stockpiling of arms were all false.
The statement further said that peace and stability had return to the local government, since the firm began it's operation, they denied ever being part of any statement that criminalises the outfit.
" The attention of the members, leaders and stakeholder's of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) representing the various clans in Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa state, has been drawn to inciting and unfounded allegations against Darlon Security firm credited to us.
" We wish to state unequivocally that the entire IYC subjects of Southern Ijaw LGA, are not part of such statements, as at no time where we consulted before the issuance of such statements that borders on us.
" As indigents of the LGA, we confide in Bayelsans, Agip and other agencies, that the allegations that arms are being stockpiled in the LGA, is totally false, not true, but a figments of the imagination by the orchestrators", the statement reads.
But a lawmaker in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Retd Colonel Bernard Kenebai, insists that there was need to checkmate the activities of, Darlon Security Services in the best interest of the state.
Kenebai accused the security firm of oil theft, illegal bunkering and other sundry crimes.
Kenebai further stated that communities such as Ondewari, Korokoresi, amongst others in Soithern Ijaw have been under series of attack from operatives of the company's taskforce.
"Darlong Security Services has gone out of their original mandate and have started inflicting pains, hardship and sorrow to people of Southern Ijaw and other areas of their operation. Their activities have become a recipe for chaos which needs to be stemmed immediately.
"As an assembly we have received complaints of the illegal activities of the Taskforce of Darlong Security Services. They have done more harm than good. So upon the presentation of the motion, the assembly resolved as follows: To call on the Governor of Bayelsa State as Chief Security Officer of the state to intervene and call them to order", kenebai statements reads.
But the IYC in response, noted that the security outfit has benefited a whole lots of youths, which has contributed to the serenity the area and oil companies are enjoying.
The IYC further passed a vote of confidence on the firm adding that Youths of the LGA will continue to support them.
Similarly, the Egbesu Brotherhood, an Ijaw ethno-religious organization, has also noted that the accusations of the state assembly are all concorted.
The group warns of imminent attack if the contract is terminated halfway, they noted that as a result of the company's effort, the area has been quiet with less bombings, sea-piracy and kidnapping.
This was in a Statement signed by it's Secretary, Comr. Sage Godson, he dismissed the allegations and advised Ijaw people to put an end to politics of blackmail and envy, but to rather work collectively for the growth of the region.
Read his statement's:
DON'T PROVOKE RENEWED AGITATIONS IN BAYELSA - EGBESU BROTHERHOOD TELLS POLITICIANS.
The order of Egbesu brotherhood wishes to warn of imminent resumption of violent agitations and escalation of already mounting tension, if the Darlon security firm, is disengaged from it's duty of protecting oil installations belonging to the Italian oil Moguls, Agip Oil Company, in the Bayelsa region, which provides employment for more than 4,000 Ijaw Youths.
We express discontentment in the way and manner the issue is being treated, already, the speculations that Darlon security firm is about to be disengaged, might heighten more tensions, and may lead to insecurity, further break down of law and order in our waterways, if not immediately brought to calm.
It is not a thing of doubt that since the emergence of Darlon security outfit, there have been relative peace. Sea-piracy, pipeline vandalism and kidnappings, are almost becoming a thing of the past, and if we continue in this manner, the international oil companies will have no more excuses in relocating to their host communities.
We advise the actors of this sinister plot, in their bid to cause acrimony and discord amongst Ijaw people, to desist forthwith and tow the path of brotherliness.
We describe as anti-Ijaw, anyone, no matter how highly placed, to be so determined in quest to end the livelihood of more than 4,000 Ijaw youths, at a time when all stakeholders in the region, are teaming up to ensure lasting peace, where we can witness development and infrastructural growth.
Ijaw politicians should desist from politics of hatred, bitterness and unproductivity, it's time to do away with the idea of 'pull him down syndrome'. Life is a circle and everyone must be patient to wait for his/her turn; rather than sit in your comfort zone , cook up false stories borne out hatred and envy to terminate contracts and jobs of your fellow ijaws.
We advise both the state and National legislature's, and the management of the Nigerian Agip Oil Company, to be very cautious and careful; not to give in to cheap blackmail, as any plans to terminate the said contract, may degenerate to a new crop of violent agitations, we have gone pass that stage as Ijaw people and not ready to return back.
While we express confidence in Darlon security firm as competent enough to Man the affairs. We pledge support to it's Chairman, Sir David Lyon, and also encourage him not to be deterred, we advise him to rally round major stakeholders in the region, to seek their cooperation and not be limited to those around him.
We reiterate once again, that the Egbesu Brotherhood, frowns entirely at any plan to discontinue the job, and will resist such action if eventually it happens.
We believe in the development of Ijaw people, we stand for justice, we believe it is unfair and unjust to take away the livelihood of an Ijaw man for whatsoever reason, is not justifiable.
Lastly, we call on all beneficiaries of the scheme to be calm, as we are certain that none will lose their Jobs. We further pledge our commitment to peace, growth and development of Ijaw people.
Asawana! Wana!!
Signed:
Sage Godson, National Secretary, Order of Egbesu brotherhood.
