Gas Explosion in Koluama community: IYC issues 24hrs ultimatum to Con Oil.

The Chairman of Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) in Central zone, Barr. Tare Porri, has issued a 24hrs ultimatum to Con Oil, operating in the Koluama Axis, to quickly fix the Anglo oil field, well 4 and 5, which exploded Monday 5th February 2017.

It was earlier reported that there was a gas explosion in the said community, which has affected the entire livelihood of the people

The Chairman noted that the oil spill is now spreading very fast to the community, which may possibly result to a wild fire, that may spread and burn down the entire community if not immediately controlled.

The Chairman also stated that the people can no longer access their waters and farms, and have been in hunger due to the incident.

The IYC therefore frowns at the attitude of Con oil, following attempts to make contacts which ended in futility.

It could be recalled that in 2012, there was a chevron gas oil explosion, which till date, the people are yet to recover from.

The Chairman further said that Ijaw Youths will invade con oil facilities if the issues is not addressed within 24hrs from today being 7th of February 2018.

He called on all multinationals operating in the state to as a matter of urgency replace all expired pipelines.
