More than 50 houses burnt in Ndoro community, IYC calls for professionalism
Sketchy reports from Bayelsa State reveals that several houses in Toru-Ndoro community, in Ekeremor Local Government Area, have been razed down by angry soldiers.
The reports says that the soldiers were said to have stormed the community for hours, between 10pm on Saturday and 7am on Sunday morning.
Sources says that about 50 houses have been burnt by the rampaging soldiers, believed to be on a reprisal attack over the beheading of their colleague last week by some militants operating in the Ndoro axis, revealed to be led by one "Gen. Kareowei"
Although, details of the reports are still sketchy at the moment, several lives is said to have been lost on the burning spree of the unruly soldiers, who are bent on revenge.
One Mr. Bonny Gawei popularly known as 'BOUNANAWEI' , an ex-militant leader from Ogulagha Kingdom, Delta State, who was said to have accompanied the beheaded security operative to Ndoro on a peace mission, when they were attacked by the hoodlums last week. His whereabout is still unknown as at the time of filing this report, sources disclosed that he may have either been abducted or killed by the Militants.
Meanwhile, the leadership of Ijaw Youth Council, Central zone, has condemned the killing of the security operative, the group pledged to aid government in fishing out the perpetrators.
Speaking during a meeting of the zonal leaders, Chairman of the zone, Barr. Tare Porri, called on Ijaw communities not to aid anyone involved in the act.
He called on the Military to be professional in it's approach, inorder to avoid a repeat of the ODI Massacre.
Porri maintained that the council would leave no stone unturned in fishing out the culprits and return normalcy to the area, but asked the military to stop further bombardments on innocent indigenes, who are unaware of the situation.
" As i speak now, our old mothers and father's are on the run for what they don't know about, houses are being razed and the military seems so prepared to bombard the entire community
" While we condemn the act and pledge our readiness to work with them, we urge them to be professional and operate within the confines of the law"
" We have also received several distress calls from residents and indigenes of Toru-Ndoro community, calling on us to come to their rescue, as they are under attack from the military"
Porri further said the entire community must not be made to suffer for the crimes of few persons.
