IYC CLAN ELECTIONS: PRESIDENT CALLS FOR UNITY, CONDEMNS VIOLENCE AMONGST YOUTHS.
• Captain Ozu officially out as Electoral Chairman.
The Oweilaemi led IYC National Executive has condemned the assault on an Ijaw Youths leader in Central zone, Snr. Comr. Didi Pogoyon, assaulted by some Youths who were said to have been angered by the actions of the Electoral committee, which they felt did not reflected the people's will.
According to information gathered, some Youths of Brass Local Government area led a protest to the President, yesterday 25th, decrying the need for a change in the clan electoral nominee representing their LGA, where in the process of their interaction, resorted to violence.
Sources disclosed that the Youths were said to have accused their electoral representative of infringing on the rights of people and arrogating absolute power to himself, they insisted on his removal and subsequent replacement.
The IYC President, Barr. Oweilaemi Pereotubo, who mediated in the brouhaha, condemned the action, and advised the Youths to always follow due process in application of their demands, he however noted that in the interest of peace and Unity, youths in the zone, must put their differences aside and find a common ground in pursuit of their vision. He called on the Eleco to be up and doing without prejudice and asked ijaw Youths to always tow the path of peace.
However the Electoral nominee of the Brass Local Government, has described the allegations as untrue, while maintaining that those agitating were more interested in imposing their unpopular candidate on the people, he noted therefore, that the elections will be conducted soon, in a free, fair and credible manner, he advised the group to begin campaigns rather than resorting to blackmail and seeking power through the back door.
Also, speaking with a source from the Electoral committee who pleaded anonymity, he stated that Captain Ozu, the supposed chairman of the Electoral committee for central clan elections, has been removed and replaced by leaders of his origin.
Though we are yet to confirm, but the source further related to Bodmasnewsblog, that his removal has already been ratified by the National leadership of the council after an all inclusive meeting with stakeholders.
