NEMBE CHIEFTAINCY TUSSLE: NEMBE IYC CONDEMNS VIOLENCE, CALLS ON STATE GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION.

YENAGOA: The Nembe-City Ijaw youths council (IYC) Clan Chairman, Comrade Yenimi Dick-Agbe, has called on the Bayelsa State government to immediately intervene and arrest the uproar rocking nembe community.

He described the power tussle between members of Kulo & koko group of houses as unhealthy, while also condemning the death of one 'Nengi', whose lifeless body was found yesterday at the Nembe rivers, which was an aftermath of a clash.

According to Yenimi, he narrated that trouble broke out on Monday 19th April, few hours to the coronation ceremony of the different highnesses in various communities in Nembe when supporters of Mr. Richard omode from the omodi family and Supporters of Mr. Conner o. West from Ingobatubu family, all from the Kulo & koko group of houses, in Etiema community clashed, leaving several injured.

He further narrated that On Monday, before the installation of the various highnesses in Nembe began at it traditional place known as 'Opupolotiri', Fight has already begun, from dispensary  (landing jetty) to Owuseipolo where both contending parties and their supporters clashed leaving one of the contender, Mr. Richard Omode seriously injured and his supporters pursued out of the community by the other party.

" Shortly after the clash, Mr. Richard was taken out of the town to yenagoa for medical treatment as he was seriously injured, after which the coronation ceremony began and his counter part Mr. Conner was installed by HRM. King Edmond Dakoru as the Highness of Etiema community, when we felt it was over, the next day, i got information that the community youth President has led military men to arrest one 'Nengi' but met his absence and his girlfriend was picked up, later same day, i got another information again that 'Nengi' was on the run, away from military men, the next day, we discovered his lifeless body on the water bank, when i did my findings, i discovered that 'Nengi' refused arrest after he was informed to submit himself, and on sighting the military men he took to his heels, they followed after him, after some distance, he jumped into the river to swim across where he must have eventually drowned i don't really know, but what we saw the next day was his lifeless body, which has now again led to another crises between his friends, families and against that of the Military and Youth President, as i speak to you, members of Nengi family are blaming his death on the Youth President, properties are being destroyed, people are being hunted while the military has imposed curfew", he said.

Yenimi also revealed that aggrieved youths are currently on rampage in the community as a vehicle belonging to the Youth President has already been burnt down, properties are being destroyed, while villagers are scamping to safety.

Yenimi further commended the efforts of Sen. Amange and Chief Amabebe, who according to him are putting efforts to calm the situation.

Yenimi lastly advise all parties to sheath their sword, while urging government to immediately intervene to arrest the situation.
