Dickson fulfils his promises, approves N250m for students stranded abroad
Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has approved the sum of £300,000 and $450,000 (over N250m) respectively for the payment of tuition fees of students from the state who are on scholarship in different foreign universities.
The Commissioner for Education in the state, Markson Fefegha, made the disclosure while speaking with journalists in Abuja, the nation’s capital, on Friday.
He said £250,000 was approved to offset tuition and other fees of Bayelsa students studying for doctorate degrees in the United Kingdom while the sum of $150,000 was also approved for those studying at the Lincoln University in the United States, and another $40,000 for students in Ghana.
Fefegha said the governor had earlier approved the sum of $42,000 for students in Kursk, Russia, about a month ago.
He said, “We are using this opportunity to thank all beneficiaries, parents and guardians for their understanding and appreciation of the plight of the government during the period of the delay in the payment. The present administration is committed to transforming the education sub-sector.”
