Breaking: IYC Treasurer Absconds with #2.5m meant for zonal congresses

Reports reaching our news desk reveals that the National Treasurer of the Ijaw Youths council (IYC) Worldwide, Comrade Ben Bowei may be declared wanted dead or alive, following allegations that he has absconded with the sum of #2.5M at about 10am today, 22nd November 2016, meant for zones and chapters to hold their congresses.

We could remember vividly that the President of the council, Engr. Udengs Eradiri gave directives on the 8th of November for zones and chapters to hold their congresses before November 25 and submit nominees for Eleco, he also promised financial and logistics support to facilitate the process.

It was learnt that earlier today, the President approved the sum of #2.5M to the treasurer for disbursement to all zones and chapters, 300,000 each was meant for Abuja and Lagos chapters while 400,000 was meant for the three zones. A balance of 600,000 was meant for other process aimed at promoting the Congress.

According to our source, at about 10am today, after waiting for some hours for him to cash the fund, he didn't return, he was phoned and his number was switched off, he later called the President in the night at about 9.30pm and confirmed to him that he has taken his own part of the council's fund to purchase his own personal vehicle, after which his line went off.

When we contacted the council's Public Relations Officer, Barrister Eric Omare, he called for calm, stating that the congresses would go on as planned, he affirmed that the leadership would handle the situation according to law and due process.
