NDU ASUU SET TO CALL OFF STRIKE IF TWO MONTHS SALARY IS PAID

YENAGOA: Following the industrial action embarked upon by the Academic staff union of Universities, Niger Delta University chapter, on April 26th 2016, due to backlog of salaries, which has pushed students of the institution under the aegis of #BRINGBACKNDU led by one Comrade Dee mitin, whom staged a protest alongside hundreds of students demanding government to settle with lecturers.

There seems to be light at the tunnel as ASUU NDU is set to call off it's action for students to return back to classes.

An Emergency  meeting of the Niger Delta University Chapter of the  Academic Staff Union of  Universities ( ASUU ) was held at the Faculty of Law campus today 11th August, 2016. The well attended  Congress resolved as follows :

1. That ASUU is very concerned about the plight of NDU students who have been at home since the end of April following the refusal of the government to pay salaries of staff from January 2016 to April 2016 that instigated the ACTIVE  NON-COMPLIANCE

2. ASUU expressed deep surprise and worry about the manner   governor Dickson insulted and threatened the Union during his media chat  and stated that it was highly regretable that  rather than appeal to lecturers whose families have been suffering without salary for over six months, the union was vylified in such manner.

3. ASUU condemned the propaganda by the Bayelsa State government that the union is bent on TOTAL PAYMENT OF ALL OUTSTANDING SALARY AREARS and averred that that has never been it's position since the commencement of this industrial action

4. The Union further  resolved to call an Emergency meeting to IMMEDIATELY  suspend the  industrial action as soon as members receive Salary alert for the months of February and March 2016; and challenged the Bayelsa  government to help the suffering students via a quick response to the payment of just two months.

5 ASUU further resolved that April 2016 salary should be paid at the end of August 2016.

6. ASUU further stated in unequivocal terms that it will accept payment of MAY 2016 salary at the end of October; implying acceptance 50% in Se plus 50 % in September and the balance of 50%  in October; and that the ONLY DIFFERENCE HERE IS THAT full monthly payment is acceptable to the ASUU in a two month interval. ASUU further oblige to receive payment of June 2016 salary in December 2016; meaning 50% in November and 50% in December  and so on.

7. ASUU insists that these positions must be properly documented in an AGREEMENT between the Union and Authorized officials of the Bayelsa State government to avoid any unnecessary dispute in the future

8. ASUU called on all stakeholders including Elder Statesmen,  Students, Civil Society Groups and all well meaning Bayelsans  to prevail on the governor to settle this lingering crisis in the best interest of the students in particular and Bayelsans in general.
