• IYC Abuja Chapter sends congratulatory message.
High Chief Selky Kile, Toroughedi otherwise known as General Young shall grow, has been made the National leader of all ex-agitators in the Niger Delta region.
This was said to be after a joint meeting of all ex-agitators in the region, held at Oporoza, Gbaranmatu kingdom, Delta State.
According to the Ijaw Youths Council, Abuja chapter, a statement from it's public relations officer, Joyce Ekrika, also confirmed the reports to be true.
The group writes as follows:
" The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Abuja Chapter wishes to congratulate High Chief Selky Kile Toroughedi, a.k.a general young shall grow on his confirmation as the National Leader of all ex-agitators in the Niger Delta after a meeting in Oporoza Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State with leaders from various camps in the struggle ( 1st face, 2nd face and 3rd face)
" High Chief Selky Kile Toroughedi Hails from Azuzu Ama in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, it may interest you to know that high chief Selky has been a strong member of the Ijaw Youth Council right from its inception and was only 16 years of age when he joined the Niger Delta struggle.
" Unlike many, he never involved himself in oil bunkering or kidnapping instead he introduced free education for primary and secondary school students in his community, pays tuition fees for university students, catered for the elderly ones in the community and has contributed immensely to the Ijaw struggle.
We are calling on all patriotic sons and daughters of Ijaw land to throw their weight behind High chief Selky to have a formidable front and to correct all abnormalities that has brought the struggle for the emancipation of the Niger Delta people on their knees. We believe that it is high time we as a people has a common front and voice that is devoid of betrayal, envy, greed and selfish gains that would ruin our collective effort as Ijaws.
We must shun violence and use an intellectual approach that would emancipate ourselves from obstacles which can hinder the actualisation of the Niger Delta dreams that our founding fathers fought for. We also came to the realisation that in order for we to achieve the aim of the Presidential Amnesty Programme signed by the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in blessed memory, His Excellency President Umaru Musa Yar’adua we must unite. After speaking with General Young Shall Grow, we came to realise that the former president made several commitments, to build six communities in the Niger Delta, to relocate the headquarters of multinational oil companies to the Niger Delta, 10 per cent oil revenue to be reserved for host communities in the region amongst host of other promises.
Elections are coming, promises are being made by our leaders and it is only in unity that we can elect credible leaders that would take the development of our region as their priority"
Other notable persons are said to have also been sending in their congratulatory messages.
