A MAN PASSIONATE ABOUT YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

The concept of youth empowerment is not new in Nigeria society especially in the political setting with most politicians using it as a wheel to power but at the end, fail to empower the youths who constitute a high percentage of the population. This is more worsened by the assertion that youths are "leaders of tomorrow" thereby impeding the progress and productivity waiting for a future that seems not to come.

The idea of Youth Empowerment simply  refers to the process by which young people are equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to engage in productive activities and implement change in their own lives and the lives of other people. In order words, it is a process of developing skills and creating opportunities for youths in order to be self-reliant and productive.

HON. JOSHUA MACIVER has over the years stood for the empowerment of youths particularly in the Niger Delta region. As a youth himself, he saw the poverty, underdevelopment and neglect of the Ijaw people and most especially the youths by the Federal Government inspite of the enormous amount of wealth extracted from the Niger Delta region. This was what motivated him to frontier the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta alongside other youth leaders. Their agitation for fair-share, resource control and self determination was misunderstood by the Federal government hence the tag as militant. Driving home their demands, HON. JOSHUA MACIVER was the first person to think of armless struggle and in turn advised the then administration of late President Umar Shehu Yaradua on the  need to grant Amnesty to the agitators thereby engaging the Youths of the region. This act led to  the amnesty programme of the government in 2009.

Today, the efforts of HON. JOSHUA MACIVER and others have paid off wherein most Niger Delta youths are now empowered, educated and trained by the federal government in different areas of life. As a man with the Fear of God and youthful thoughts, HON. JOSHUA MACIVER in his own personal capacity has empowered youths by sponsoring education, providing financial assistance and scholarship to persons with disabilities, training youths in various skills acquisition programmes, and setting up others in small and medium scale business enterprises. His passion has always been anchored on the progress of the youths.

It is therefore clear that a man with such antecedents is what Bayelsans and most especially the Youths need to move our beloved state forward. If given a chance, HON. JOSHUA MACIVER will create employment opportunities for the youths, promote human capacity development and create an enabling environment for youths to fully develop and showcase their potentials to the world.

We therefore call on all Bayelsans especially the Youths who constitute 75% of the voting population to rally their support around the Great Hon. Joshua Maciver to become the next governor of Bayelsa state come 2019!
