Breaking: Armed men ambush police checkpoint in Bayelsa, 1 dead, 2 hospitalised.

A police officer has been reported dead in Ogbia local government area of Bayelsa state and two others critically lying ill in the hospital.

A source disclosed to Bodmas Kemepadei, that the incident took place at Kolo 1 community in Ogbia LGA, Bayelsa State, at about 9:35pm today, September Monday 4th, 2017.

According to the reports, it revealed that the armed men numbering about three or four thereabouts, came out of their vehicle at the Kolo 1 police checkpoint, and assaulted the police officers on duty with series of matchets cuts.

The source revealed that indigenes of the community on sighting the scene immediately rushed to the venue, but the armed men had already inflicted injuries on their victims and carted away with the police rifles.

The source further revealed that, the indigenes caught hold of the taxi driver, who pleaded with the people that the culprits were passengers who boarded his vehicle.

One of the officers has been reported dead, the other lying critically ill alongside a civilian.

The reports further revealed that the armed men, shot sporadically as they ran into the forest of the Kolo 1 community, fleeing from those who may intent to chase.

Meanwhile, there are confirmed reports that the Police division in the area had deployed officers to arrest the situation.
