OMARE LEGAL ADVISER, PORRI, WITHDRAWS, THROWS WEIGHT BEHIND OWEILAEMI, DECLARES TO RUN FOR CENTRAL CHAIRMANSHIP.
- Omare to go ahead with Inauguration as 7th IYC President against Elders decision.
Few days to the Inaugural ceremony of the Barrister Eric Omare led IYC leadership, Barr. Tare Porri, an officer in his cabinet, who emerged as IYC National legal adviser at the burutu convention held 2nd March 2017 alongside others, has come out to publicly withdraw himself from the leadership, accepting the Okrika Unity convention which produced the Barr. Oweilaemi Pereotubo led Exco.
Barr. Porri who made the statement yesterday while addressing Pressmen in his office at Ijaw-House, officially announced his withdrawal as IYC National legal adviser.
According to him, his withdrawal and acceptance of Oweilaemi led IYC Exco Worldwide, was borne out of the resolution reached by the IYC peace committee set up by the Governor of Bayelsa state, his Excellency, Henry seriake Dickson.
Porri stated that he was intent on giving peace a chance in Ijaw Nation and to work in accordance with the decision of the elders. He categorically stated that the decision of the elders was a win win situation, noting that the National Executive was left for Oweilaemi led Exco, while the zonal structures was handed over to the Omare led faction inorder to douse all tension and conflicts.
" As you can all witness, the IYC in central zone is one, few days ago, zonal Congress was held and Evang. Perkins ogede emerged as Electoral chairman, you all could remember that Perkins was the National secretary to Eric Omare, this is to tell you all, that Ijaw youths in central zone are in one accord, there is nothing like burutu or Okrika, what we have is a united IYC under Barr. Oweilaemi Pereotubo", he noted.
Porri further thanked the Governor of Bayelsa State His Excellency Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson for wading into the conflicts rocking the Ijaw Youth Council and restoring peace, he equally extended gratitude to the Fumudor led committee for the maturity and fatherly role they played in the process of reconciling the two faction in Ijaw Youth Council.
Porri lastly noted, that despite what has happened, he is still very much interested in serving the Ijaw Nation at any level, he therefore declared his intention to run for the office of Central Zonal Chairman, which is to being zoned to the Bayelsa west senatorial district comprising of Sagbama and Ekeremor LGA, of which he (porri) hails from Ekeremor.
Porri promised to restore the glory of Ijaw youths in the zone and to put an end to all incessant and unwarranted harassment of Ijaw youths, especially by the police.
Meanwhile, Barr. Eric Omare has continued to maintain that he remains President of IYC, as the matter is already in court, he is set to hold his Inaugural ceremony on Friday 7th,July, at warri, delta state, where eminent personalities and traditional rulers are set to attend.
