IYC: STUDENTS COMMUNITY HAILS PORRI, SAYS EBILADE HAS EARNED A PLACE IN HISTORY.

The Niger Delta University (NDU) students community, has congratulated the newly elected Chairman of Ijaw youths council in the central zone, Mr. Tare Porri, on his victory at Ijaw house on Saturday, which affirmed him as Chairman Elect of the zone.

The Evang. Perkins Ogede led Electoral committee, declared Mr. Porri winner of the elections held on Saturday 15th at the Ijaw house, in Yenagoa, after polling 81 votes out of 100 to beat his counterparts.

In a statement yesterday evening made available to Bodmasnewsblog.com , President of the union, Comr. Kemeagbeayi Mitin, said his victory was a victory for the students community.

“We heartily congratulate the Chairman-Elect, Barr. Tare Porri on his overwhelming victory at the recently concluded IYC Central zonal elections. We believe that his victory is a reflection of the yearning and aspirations of a majority of the Ijaw youths, especially the students community

“Our most sincere prayer is that the almighty God will give him the wisdom to lead this zone to the Promised Land and to consolidate on the gains of our ideals as enshrined in the Kaiama declaration document ” he said.

While commending the Evang. Perkins Ogede led Electoral committee for conducting an election that was widely acclaimed to be free, fair and credible, they charged porri to also be magnanimous in victory by carrying along all youths and students in the zone  in his administration.

“In the same vein, we would like to commend Evang. Perkins ogede led Electoral committee for conducting the widely accepted IYC Central zonal elections that have elected representatives of the Ijaw people.

We also commend our brother Comr. Ebilade Ekerefe for his statesmanlike conduct in conceding defeat and congratulating the Chairman Elect- Barr. Porri, even in the face of many of many uncertainties".

They noted that Ebilade's singular action of accepting defeat and congratulating the winner shortly after results were announced, was unprecedented in the democratic history of IYC in the zone and has set a precedent on the way Ijaw youths should conduct themselves.

“This action has earned Ebilade a place in our zone's history and has helped define what the future conduct of upcoming Ijaw politicians should be”.

The students also praised the Elders of Council for their active participation throughout the exercise which they held and was done with decorum.

They also expressed optimism in the ability of porri to provide lasting solutions to the challenges of the Ijaw youths in the zone, assuring that he will fulfill his campaign promises and in so doing, ensure the socio-political and economic growth and development of the zone.

He rejoiced with porri and urged all youths and leaders in the zone to work with him.
