READ THIS: AN IJAW MAN ACCEPTS TO DIE WITH HIS FELLOW IJAW BROTHERS. APRIL 1990 COUP.
The April 1990 coup had failed, Some major leaders were beginning to flee, while some others refused and submitted themselves for Execution.
The Ijaws were major part of the coup, to them it was a movement for "Resource Control and Self Determination", a movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta people.
Capt. Empere from Sagbama Local Government Area was also part of the coup, he had successfully ran to his hometown in Agbere and was now in safe hands.
Only for him to later discover that his fellow Ijaw brothers have been arrested, he wasted no time, he dressed in his military attire and travelled down to Lagos, getting to Lagos, he chattered a personal cab to drive him to Dodam barracks, he got to Dodam barracks and demanded to see Gen. Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, he was given passage.
Babangida asked him if he was aware that he was also declared wanted, Empere affirmed and stated that it was the Sole reason why he came back.
Babangida was shocked, Empere told Babangida that he could not be in a comfort zone while his brothers are being tried for Execution, in his words: "Where Dakolo dies is where I will die, where you bury my Ijaw brothers, Bury me there too".
So he was Chained and taken away, he was later executed alongside his brothers.
