OSINBAJO COMMENDS MARITIME UNIVERSITY PROJECT, AS IYC PROVES TOMPOLO IS ONLY BEING POLITICALLY PERSECUTED (PHOTOS)

DELTA: The Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo in his visit to Delta State received a warm welcome by the entire leadership of the Ijaw youths council (IYC) Worldwide, led by it's National President, Engr. Udengs Eradiri, who welcomed the Vice-President and his entourage to Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

This visit may have yielded positive results in the ongoing imbroglio between famous Niger Delta born freedom fighter, High Chief Oweizidei Ekpemupolo alias 'Tompolo', in his rift with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), over allegations of absconding with funds meant for the development of the university.

In contrary to some media reports that has described the Maritime University as a ghost project, the Vice-President visited the Maritime University and was shocked at the works done, he commended the contractor involved and applauded the project.

The IYC President Comr. Engr. Udengs Eradiri in his speech to the Vice President commended the loudable developmental works done by Tompolo in the region, and categorically pointed out that the negative things said against Tompolo are lies that are politically sponsored by some persons to gain favour from the Federal Government.

According to him, "The Vice President has seen for himself, all those saying negative things are doing so to gain favour from the Federal Govt. and not for the interest of Ijaw people".

The President of the IYC futher commended the Visit of the Vice President, describing it as Confidence Building, he therefore appealed to the Federal Govt. to put an end to the unwarranted arrest, intimidation and neglection of Ijaw people.

Eradiri said to the Vice President:

"there should be a general release of all Ijaw boys from detention, if the Federal Govt. can release over a hundred Boko Haram suspects that were apprehended at scene of crime killing people, our boys who where not even seen with arms should be released unconditionally".

"Also, the Maritime University should now be open to start functioning as the infrastructure in the university is up to standard".

The IYC President also commented on the neglection of Ijaw people from key positions, he talked about the recent fourty (40) oil lifting licenses which where awarded, stating that no Ijaw man was given any, on issue of the NNPC staffing, he stated that it was poor.

In the same vain, the King of Gbaramatu prayed earmestly for the  IYC leadership .

The vice President who was more than impress with the attitude of the people and level of work done in the Maritime University, promised to ensure that federal government keep to their demands.

Osinbajo said "Development is a collective responsibility from both the Federal Govt., state, local govt and the people of the region, we are therefore committed to peace and we would do everything within our reach to make Niger Delta better while we also seek your cooperation".
