Who Wants Governor Wike Dead?
Since democratic independent in 1960, Nigeria has always bragged of being a truly independent country. This is because in a democracy, the security of lives and properties are ultimately guaranteed.
This absolutely explains why majority of people across the world believe that democracy, in a world of political consciousness, an attack to one is attack to all. And in a true society where the masses hold the supremacy of political practice, what the people say is what the public should believe.
What this implies for a sitting governor to raise an alarm that his life is at serious risk. In all these, one begins to wonder why Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, who, indeed, has all the facilities of an exquisite office, should be earmarked for assassination.
Wike said that the alleged plot by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in the state to assassinate him was real, and not something that should be swept under the carpet.
Wike alleged that those behind the plot to assassinate him have boasted that he will be “the first serving governor to be assassinated and that nothing will happen” afterwards, alleging that the officer in charge of Operations of the police, Steven Hasso and the Commander of SARS, Akin Fakorede have threatened to kill him.
He said the plot was driven by desperation on the part of the APC leaders, who he noted fully appreciate the fact that the party is unpopular, but want to win elections at all cost.
The governor, who reiterated his earlier statement of being in possession of a video footage detailing how the Rivers State Police Commissioner and others plotted to rig the rerun elections, threatened to release the video at the appropriate time.
He said that the video would shock the nation as to the extent the security, INEC and Police rigging machine are willing to go to steal the mandate of Rivers people.
Speaking on Channels Television’s “Sunrise Daily” yesterday, Wike also accused the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and security agencies, especially the Nigerian Police Force of collaborating with the APC to subvert the outcome of the December 10, legislative rerun election.
He said that the security personnel attached to Government House, Port Harcourt has reduced to 50 out of the 250 policemen posted to Government House , Port Harcourt, just as he said that he now goes out with less than 20 policemen and only three personnel from the Department of State Security, DSS.
Wike claimed that as the election approaches, the police have assigned men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad ( SARS) to the candidates of the APC without extending any to the PDP.
He said: “They have assigned Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) personnel to APC candidates without assigning any to PDP candidates. These SARS personnel have been assigned to the APC candidates for them to intimidate PDP supporters on Election Day.
“I have written the Inspector General of Police five letters that the Assistant Commissioner of Police, in charge of Operations, Steven Hasso and the Commander of SARS, Akin Fakorede have threatened to kill me. But the Inspector General has not replied even one letter.”
He added: “We are not discussing this matter privately. This threat is now. For us, winning the election is not a do-or-die affair, but for some of them, it is a do-or-die-affair.”
He said he wants to be remembered as the Governor who restored Port Harcourt to its Garden City status, but is being disturbed by those who don’t want him to achieve that objective.
“You were the governor for eight years. For God’s sake you have contributed your own part, let another person contribute his own part,” he said.
Wike, who also spoke on INEC, observed that it was partial, by working for a specific political interest and political party, noting that the leadership of the electoral body don’t inspire confidence in stakeholders.
Governor Wike said: “There is an agenda against Rivers State, I have to defend my people.
