Police nabs 3 suspected armed robbers at Okaka (Yenagoa)

Three suspected armed robbers have been nabbed by the police in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state after robbing a woman of her handbag believed to have contained cash of about #50,000 inside a Keke (tri-cyle) on Monday afternoon at Okaka.

According to a source close to the police, the three suspected robbers are Mr. Ese Oghene aged 24 from Delta state but lives at INEC Road, Yenagoa, Mr. John Godswill alias “Panicky” a native of kpansia also lives at INEC Road, Yenagoa and Mr. Kelvin Okonye aged 22.

It is reported that the three men boarded the said tri-cycle at Amarata area of Yenagoa and robbed the woman but she shouted for help.

The three suspected robbers fled but fortunately two police men who were strolling along the Melford Okilo Road at that time intervened and chased them to Okaka community, Yenagoa.

The policemen were able to dive one of the suspected armed robbers after the robbee had opened up gunshots which he dosged and arrested him while the other two jumped into the Epie Creek at Okaka.
However, the Vigilante group at Okaka were quickly mobilized and searched after the two robbers that had jumped into the creek.

At last, they were apprehended and handed over to the police after they had been beaten to black and blue, adding that the robbers gun and the woman’s handbag were recovered.

Our source said that the suspected armed robbers were identified by one Mr. Smile and Mr. Engineer Igodo who claimed to be victims of the robbery gang some time ago in Yenagoa.

As at the time of this report, the suspected armed robbers are receiving medical treatment in an undisclosed hospital in Yenagoa.
