UYO U-20 TOURNAMENT: BAYELSA THROUGH TO ROUND OF 16

UYO: Bayelsa youths under the age bracket of 20, talented in football, which were singlehandedly sponsored  by Hon. Ibarakumo Otobo, the Special adviser to the Governor on Youths matters, whom are currently in Uyo, the Capital city of Akwa-Ibom, are doing the state proud in a football competition tagged as "Udom/Moses Under-20 Victory Football Tournament" organized by the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) aimed at discovering and encouraging young talents accross the country.

It was learnt that the youngsters have made it through the group Stage to the Round of 16 after winning their last match with UTA-EWA FC by 3 goals to nil, the talented youths have also been predicted to be winners of the tournament, as they poise great skills, talents and immeasurable zeal.

Information gathered shows that the talented team, were selected from among the various youth in the state believed to have the potentials for such task, Bodmasnews.com also discovered that before the youths embarked on these journey, they were said to have received many discouraging statements from some high profiled politians and stakeholders in the state, advising them not to participate in the event, as they regarded it as unproductive and a total waste of funds.

But lucked shined on their path, as the Special adviser to the Bayelsa state Governor and Chairman Bayelsa State Volunteers, Hon. Ibarakumo Otobo showed great desire to support them, he saw the idea as a well thought initiative that will help engage the youths positively and also discover hidden talents abound in the state thereby reducing the rate of crimes and criminality, he then immediately purchased their participation form, secured their accommodation in Uyo and provided funds for their feeding and other expenses, he has since then been catering for their needs up to this moment.

Meanwhile, Dr. Udosen who is the Akwa Ibom Sports Chairman of the Year 2015, commended the organizers, the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) for its untiring effort at promoting grassroot sports development in the country. He called on the organizers to concentrate on discovering hidden talents that are abound in the country.

The tournament kick started on Saturday, 27 August, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ Comprehensive Secondary School, Atai Otoro in Abak local government area.

Mr. Ada gwegwe, who is the team's coach thanked the S.A/Volunteer Chairman, describing him as a sports-loving chairman who wants to see his people excel in the field of sports.

Speaking with a Youth activist and student leader, Comr. Wisdom adike, he called on other leaders in the state to emulate the Volunteer Chairman by supporting forth-coming tournaments and other youths oriented programs aimed at improving lives.
