DICKSON SETS UP C'MITEE TO OVERSEE NDU, URGES THEM TO BE PRODUCTIVE

BAYELSA: The Government of Bayelsa State, led by His Excellency, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, has constituted a Special Committee on the Niger Delta University,  urging them to be creative and develop ideas that will generate more funding to sustain the institution, the team is also to monitor and checkmate the activities of the institution's management inorder to enhance quality of Education, however, the committee will not affect the academic status of the institution.

The statement was issued by Daniel Iworiso-Markson, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Bayelsa State, he stated the committee's tasks as follows:

NDU matters

Terms of reference for the Special Committee on Niger Delta University Amassoma.

Our policy will be that of subvention. Therefore the governing body of NDU must be creative to get more funding to sustain the institution. However,  this must not affect the academic status of the institution.

1. To draw up a short, medium and long term plan for the NDU

2. To examine the performance of the NDU in terms of academic progress, infrastructural development, adequacy of man power,  examine the quality of output so as to determine whether the University has met the objectives of its founding.

3. To identify critical factors that have militated against the development of the university and also suggest solutions to arrest these factors.

4. To developed a sustainable funding mechanism for the university in lieu of the economic downturn and to highlight the role and contributions various stakeholders including the government can make in the new paradigm.

5. To determine cost effective measures aimed at reducing the recurrent expenditure of the university without impacting negatively on its essential academic repute.

6. To develop a government and university linkage structure that will amicably resolve issues that may lead to obstructions in the university academic calendar as a result of avoidable industrial actions.

7. To examine the security situation in NDU  and develop a sustainable security framework within  the university community and environs.

8. To determine the extent of land encroachment by the communities and families around the universities and make appropriate recommendations to arrest and recover such properties.

9. To advice government generally on any aspect of the university that may be of interest to the state government and stake holders.
