AGRICULTURE WILL SOLVE N'DELTA'S PROBLEMS AND BOOST BAYELSA'S ECONOMY - ENGR. UDENGS.
- Agricultural co-operatives hails IYC
YENAGOA: The President of the Ijaw youths council (IYC) WORLDWIDE, Engr. Udengs Eradiri has said that the economic problems facing Bayelsa state and the Niger Delta region at large can be easily solved through mechanised farming and agricultural activities.
The President made this statement at the council's secretariat on 15th September, during a visit of the Bayelsa women entrepreneurs co-operative association and the members of AFAN.
Speaking at the visit, Pst. Mrs. Peace Oruame, State woman coordinator called on the IYC president to engage the Government to make famers access the federal government loan meant for farming. She also proposed a research work on the benefits of saint leaf to the NDDC via the President. A member of the said union futher called for unity in the approach for wealth creation.
Also, the women Arise Group, a famers cooperative society visited the President on same day, commending his good works, they stated their agenda as follows:
• Capital for farming due to the capital intensity
• Skill acquisition
• Training and giving starter packs.
The Chairperson of the group, Amina O. Jamea said these and many more they are intent on doing. The President applauded the women and urged them to contijue in their good works as women are the lubricant of the society.
He further assured the various groups of different programmes inwhich the IYC is putting in place for women to be part of, according to him "There is a lot of role women are suppose to play to solve societal issues, the IYC will want to show how the energy of women are to be harnessed".
Udengs also restated his earlier plans to organise a food festival in December to show case the agricultural products coming out of bayelsa for the world to see.
He thetefore called on Government to set up processing factories and also make lands available for farming activities. He asks academic institutions in the state to ensure all graduates go for one year Agriculture farming scheme as this will help boost the economy of Bayelsa state.
