NDU: ASUU REFUTES REPORT, MAINTAINS IT'S ACTION, AS GOVERNMENT EXPRESSES HOPE OF RESUMPTION.

The prolonged Niger delta university strike which has lingered for the past 4 months seems to be generating  controversies between the Union and the schools dean of students affairs, after a news which went online 19th August 2016, stating that government has paid the union two (2) months salary as demanded by the Union in their last Congress, meanwhile the union through their official Facebook page as refuted such claims.

According to the publication which had an audio evidence, the dean of student affairs, Dr Biryai  in a telephone conversation stated confidently that the state government has paid the union two (2) month salaries, he also went further to say that the the management will convene a meeting immediately with the union to work out modalities of payments for the remaining salaries, expresing confidence that the school will  by the grace of God reopen next week, only if  Asuu accepts the terms, urging students to start preparing for examination.

Meanwhile ASUU through it's secretary on a telephone chat has refuted the reports, also stating that their industrial action is very much intact.

Furthermore ASUU explained that their demands of two months salaries still stands, and only after alerts are received, then the union through a well attended congress will take a stand to call off the industrial action. Their statements further refuted the dean's report which said that the union will hold a congress today, this they described as not true.

Investigations also reveales that the union which was supposed to meet with the state government yesterday, but government representatives were not around due to the PDP convention held in Port-Harcourt. Another meeting has therefore been rescheduled but details are yet to be known.

However, our source from Asuu who prefers to remain anonymous revealed that Asuu's negotiation with Government has now been yielding good result and expresses optimism in resumption anytime soon.

Speaking also with the Special adviser to the state government on students affairs, Hon. Austin Adigio, he urged all studehts to be calm as the strike will soon be a thing of the past. His statements also confirms with our source from Asuu which states that negotiations are yielding positive results. He maintained that government has entered into meaningful dialogue with the union, and the coming week will bring good news to ears of students and Bayelsans in general.

The union through its official facebook page has said that such rumours of payment and school resumptions should be debunked as they still insist on payments before going back to the classrooms, but affirms that there might likely be a congress next week.
