STUDY OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES CAN SOLVE NIGERIA'S PROBLEM - APC LEGAL ADVISER
As the anti-graft war intensifies, National Legal Adviser of All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr. Muiz Banire, has asked the Federal Government to take the anti-graft war to schools. Banire made the appeal at a special Iftar, the breaking of fast with the children of Bab-Es-Salam Orphanage, Ikeja, which also had in attendance, Hajiya Sekinah Lawal, Chairperson of National Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Lagos chapter.
APC legal Adviser noted that the students should be taught to protect private or public property including funds when the opportunity arises rather than the experience of misappropriation. On how the Federal Government could achieve this, he explained that effective teaching of religious studies in schools especially Islamic studies will help achieve maximum reduction in corrupt practices.
His words, “It will help bring back our morals and values which we have lost over the years. Each student will be taught how to abide by the tenets of his religious. In the process, they will inculcate good moral and values propagated by the religions into their lifestyle.”
Lamenting how moral values has eroded the society, Banire said: “it is pathetic that someone who had been convicted of corruption is been celebrated in our country today. But in the past, when someone is tainted with corruption, the person could commit suicide. “It is not like that again because everyone now believes in the arrival syndrome; that is, he has made money. No one investigates the source of the wealth,” he added.
About the Orphans and the vulnerable
Banire explained that he was touched by the pains the less privileged and orphans go through to earn a living. He urged the society to put in place various measures to have direct contacts with them. Harping on the state of the nation, Dr. Banire renewed appeal on Nigerians to always pray for the success of the Buhari-led government, urging them to shun all forms of divisive tendencies as a nation.
Meanwhile his wife, Alh. Jemila Banire charged the children of Bab-Es- Salam Orphanage which was established by the late Baba Adini of Lagos, Chief Wahab Iyanda Folawiyo, to portray the beauty of using Hijab at all times, praying that Allah would provide all their needs.
