Reports filtering into our news room has it that the wife of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari has cancelled her scheduled trip to the United States of America for the World First Ladies Conference holding at Colorado. According to NEWS24, Many had hoped Aisha Buhari would have used the opportunity of the visit to put to rest the controversies surrounding her name in the Halliburton bribery scandal, but instead she bailed out at the last minute.

The scheduled visit was fixed after Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State accused Aisha Buhari of complicity in the famous Halliburton Scandal ($182m) involving a racketeer Mr. Williams Jefferson.

Governor Fayose had earlier claimed that Aisha Buhari has been avoiding the United States because of her alleged involvement in the  scandal. Rather than attend the conference, the President's wife has opted to perform the lesser hajj in Saudi Arabia.

In a 25 paged Government Sentencing Memorandum, William Jefferson was convicted by the jury of selling his congressional office with the intention of enriching his family with hundreds of millions of dollars in the bribery proceeds and concealing more than $478,000 in actual bribe payments through nominee companies and sham consulting agreements and was thereto sentenced to a minimum stay of 27 years imprisonment.

The media director in the Office of the Wife of the President, Zakari Nadabo, who announced the cancellation of the US trip, however, did not give any reason for Aisha Buhari's decision.
