BAYELSA STUDENTS VOWS TO PROTEST AGAINST NEW VARSITY, SAYS IT'S TORU-ORUA AGENDA
YENAGOA: A group known as the "NEW Democrats" has described the Bayelsa new varsity as "Toru-Orua University" alleging that it's an orchestrated plot by the state Government to systematically and tactically kill the Niger Delta University(NDU). The group who also vowed to write to the National Assembly over the illegal process adopted by the state House of Assembly in passing a bill within two days and without proper proceedings, the bill that saw the emergence of the "University of Africa".
Speaking with Bodmasnews.com via a telephone conversation in Yenagoa, the leader of the movement, Comrade Sintei Wisdom, a student leader and activist, categorically blamed the government for it's insincerity in resolving the strike embarked upon by the ASUU chapter of the Niger Delta University three month's ago, he described the situation of Niger Delta University as pathetic and a mockery to the late Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha.
He exclaimed "Ala! we have all seen why the Governor has refused to bring the strike to an end, now that the National universities commission has approved the school, by September, they will commence admission, and many students of NDU will be strategically transfered to it, this will then mark the end of NDU".
Sintei further said that Bayelsans should not be deceived by the nomenclature of the new varsity, as it grand plot is to rename it as "TORU-ORUA UNIVERSITY" as time progresses.
He therefore urged government to come out clean, stating that if his statements are false, the Government should as a matter of urgency adopt all measures to put the Asuu-NDU strike to a halt so students can return back to school.
